The electronic cigarettes also known as e -cigarette in this 'e' age, was invented in the year 2003 by Hon Lik. Golden Dragon Holdings, Lik's company started marketing the e-cigarette in 2005. The electronic cigarette is a device that is powered by battery, which provides the user nicotine or non nicotine doses in vapor form that can be easily inhaled.

The vapor can also be flavored and the accompanying taste or sensation is same as that of smoking tobacco, without the disagreeable smoke. The electronic cigarette is usually in the shape of a long tube, but now- a-days they are being designed to look similar even externally to cigarettes or cigars or even pipes. The electronic cigarettes are refillable and have many replaceable parts.

Pen style electronic cigarette: The pen style cigarette is one of the latest designs that have entered the market. This has long battery life and large cartridge with lot of vapor. This is larger in size than the regular cigarette.

Disposable e-cigarettes: These are single use models and hence the batteries need not be recharged. They come in all the above mentioned designed, but the most commonly used type is the mini cigarettes.
